ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS IN AVORIAZ

There is a wide range of activities to keep everyone entertained off the slopes. Once you have finished skiing or snowboarding for the day, you will definitely be able to keep everyone occupied in Avoriaz. 

Indoor Activities

Dive into Aquariaz, an indoor water park featuring an indoor river, aquatic halfpipe, toddler's paddling pool, water playhouse, and a large pool with natural climbing walls. There’s also a chill-out space and aqua fitness classes. Fun for adults and children, alike. For more family fun head to the bowling alley, it's a real playground for all ages; you’ll also find arcade games, billiards, darts, foosball and air-hockey.

If you’ve still got some energy to burn head to Altforme fitness centre and take part in a yoga or Pilates class. Try your hand at E-Sports and let off steam during a game of dodgeball in augmented reality! If you prefer to be in the real world then perhaps challenge yourself at the indoor bouldering wall, is more for you.

Unwind at one of the numerous spas and treatment rooms, many of which welcome non-guests or catch a movie at the cinema, here they often play English speaking films. Wander through the streets for a touch of shopping and unwind in the many cafés and restaurants along the way.

Outdoor Activities

Experience the charm of a traditional horse-drawn sleigh ride through the picturesque snowy landscapes or take the reins and mush through the snow with a team of enthusiastic huskies while dog sledding. For a unique biking experience, ride specially designed fat bikes or e-bikes over snowy trails. If you prefer to keep your ski's on the psite then combine skiing and horseback riding with ski joering for a thrilling journey across the snow. For a a truly unique experience head over to Châtel (full Portes du Soleil pass required) and try the Fantasticable Zip Wire, you’ll find yourself flying head-first along a 1200m cable, with incredible views over the Plaine Dranse valley below you. Your skis follow behind you so you can clip in and carry on once your flight is over!

To really get the adrenaline pumping take a ride on an Avokart, a three-wheeled vehicle with hydraulic brakes designed for a thrilling descent. If you fancy something with an engine then book a snowmobiling tour.

Back in the village head to the ice-skating rink or grab a sledge for some outdoor fun.

Escape into nature on snowshoes and explore the untouched parts of the mountains by grabbing a guide from the tourist office or booking an excursion with an activity company. Ski touring enthusiasts can explore famous routes in Avoriaz by hiring a guide and using skins to trek up slopes, earning a hearty meal and avoiding the crowds. Traverse serene, snow-covered landscapes cross-country skiing. To explore the mountains in a different way try tandem paragliding or take a helicopter tour, taking in breathtaking views from high above. You can also explore the depths below with an ice diving experience, plunge into the freezing waters of Lac Montriond with an experienced instructor. Day and night diving experiences are available. 

If you prefer to keep your feet on firm ground then take a visit the Ferme de Seraussaix, a working cattle farm on Route d’Avoriaz, the farm shop is open daily and you buy local cheeses, meats, and other farm produce. You can also take a guided farm tour (with tastings!) on certain days of the week, bookings are required. A really local experience.

Non-skiers can still enjoy the mountains by purchasing a pedestrian lift pass, which provides access to main lifts, winter hiking trails and mountain restaurants.

Events

Snowboxx Festival: Experience the ultimate mountain music festival, showcasing some of the biggest names from the dance and urban music scene. Set against a breathtaking backdrop of mountains and chalets, the Festival Village is an arena-style area filled with custom-built snow bars, retail stalls, and street food outlets. Other activities include forest raves, igloo parties, legendary après-ski, and bottomless brunches to keep your energy levels high! The event is usually held mid to late March and tickets sell out fast so be sure to book yours!

Rock The Pistes: An annual music festival held in the Portes du Soleil ski area. It’s a week-long event that takes place between the end of March and the beginning of April. It’s one of the largest music festival in the Alps, featuring big-name artists, DJs, and niche bands performing throughout the day across multiple resorts in both France and Switzerland. Festival-goers can ski from one performance to the next or, for non-skiers, take a gondola or chair lift to each concert. As long as you have a ski pass/ pedestrian pass you can attend for free!
