Two ringo-ers on the slopes of Tignes

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS IN TIGNES

For those not particularly interested in skiing or snowboarding, or even for those looking to try out some new things, there is plenty on offer around Tignes. A great place to start has to be the Ice driving down in Les Brévières. Learn how to control your car in the toughest conditions just like a rally driver, with a host of different courses available to suit the experience you are after. Sticking with the mechanical activities, you can also go-karting on ice, heliskiing, helicopter tours and the incredible opportunity to fulfil one of your James Bond fantasies by flying in a Microlight! One final activity for the petrol heads is the snowmobiling, where you can enjoy an evening ride discovering the mountains under the stars. What's more, this trip includes a stop at the Mongolian Yurt that overlooks the resort of Tignes and provides truly mesmerising views.

Some unique experiences to the area include ice diving in the frozen lake down in Tignes-le-Lac. Quite simply, this is an experience like no other and can be done by beginners or advanced ice divers with the knowledge that they will be using the best equipment with superb instructors. Tignes is also home to what they call the ‘Bun J Ride’ which effectively combines the trio of ski jumping, bungee jumping and a zip wire all in one. But how? you might ask. Well, you ski (or snowboard) down the 30m long runway where you then take off and drop into a 40m void. Once you become stable again you will shoot off down to the ground on the zip wire!

Other activities in the area include ice-skating, speed-riding, snowkiting, sledging and snake gliss, snowshoeing, paragliding, mountaineering, ice climbing and bungee trampolining for the kids. A particularly great family activity is the dog-sledging which you do over the frozen lake.

Tignes has a variety of other facilities that guests can access, such as the bowling alley and games arcade in Jack’s Club and the cinema. If you happen to be here on the Thursday or Sunday, then the market down in Le Lac is definitely worth a visit as it sells a variety of local produce whilst also offering a wide selection of ski and sports clothing. It is also worth noting that there is a public swimming pool and ‘wellness’ centre in Tignes, but several hotels are willing to open their doors for use of the swimming pools.
