Verbier For Families

Verbier is a world-renowned ski resort known for its stunning alpine scenery and vibrant après-ski scene. While it’s famous for challenging terrain, Verbier also offers a wealth of family-friendly activities both on and off the slopes. With dedicated ski areas for kids, exciting off-slope adventures, and plenty of opportunities to explore the snowy landscape, Verbier is a fantastic winter destination for families.

SKI SCHOOLS

Verbier offers great options for families with children who are just starting out on the slopes. The Les Esserts and La Chaux areas provide beginner-friendly slopes with gentle runs and dedicated magic carpets for easy access.

Verbier has a number of excellent ski schools, the ones we'd recommend the most (having spent a lot of time working with them) are the Warren Smith Ski Academy and New Generation Ski and Snowboard School.

You can find out more about Verbier Ski School options on the Verbier Ski Schools page

ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

Sledging is always a hit with kids, and Verbier doesn’t disappoint. The Savoleyres Toboggan Run offers an exciting 10-kilometer descent from the top of Savoleyres down to La Tzoumaz, making it one of the longest sledge runs in the area. The run offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and is sure to provide plenty of thrills for both children and parents. The route is family-friendly and accessible, with the option to rent sledges at the top, ensuring a fun-filled experience for everyone.

For some classic winter fun, families can head to the Verbier Ice Rink located in the heart of the resort. This open-air rink offers a beautiful setting for kids to practice their skating skills or simply glide around and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The rink provides skate rentals and is perfect for both beginners and experienced skaters. Parents can join in or watch from the sidelines while enjoying a warm drink. The rink often hosts special events, including ice hockey games and themed skating nights, adding to the fun.

For younger children, the Mont4Kids Snow Park is a highlight. This dedicated snow play area, located near Les Esserts, is designed specifically for kids, offering fun obstacles, gentle slopes, and a magic carpet lift to make skiing and snow play easy and enjoyable. The park is also home to a snow tubing area, where kids can slide down specially designed tracks in inflatable tubes, providing hours of fun in the snow. Parents can relax and watch from nearby, or join in on the playful action with their kids.

For families with older children looking for a unique and thrilling experience, paragliding over the Swiss Alps is an unforgettable adventure. Verbier is one of the best places to try tandem paragliding, where you can soar above the resort and take in breathtaking aerial views of the snowy mountains. Kids can participate in tandem flights with professional instructors, making it a safe yet exhilarating activity. It’s the perfect way to experience the beauty of Verbier from a completely different perspective, and it’s sure to be a highlight of your family holiday.

A dog sledding adventure is one of the most exciting and family-friendly ways to explore the winter wilderness around Verbier. Families can embark on a magical ride through the snow-covered forests, pulled by a team of energetic huskies. Kids will love meeting the friendly dogs, and parents can enjoy the serene beauty of the landscape as the sled glides effortlessly through the snow. Some tours even allow children to try guiding the sled for a short distance, adding to the excitement. It’s an experience that captures the spirit of a true winter adventure.

When it’s time to take a break from the cold, the Verbier Sports Centre offers a variety of indoor activities that families can enjoy. The centre includes a swimming pool, where kids can splash around and parents can relax. For something more active, the centre also offers indoor climbing walls, a great option for adventurous children and teenagers. The bowling alley and tennis courts provide even more ways to have fun indoors, making it a great place to unwind after a day in the snow.

For a cultural and educational experience, families can visit the nearby Barryland Saint Bernard Museum in Martigny, just a short drive from Verbier. This museum is dedicated to the famous Swiss Saint Bernard dogs, and children can learn about the breed’s history, meet the dogs, and even watch demonstrations of their rescue skills. The museum offers interactive exhibits, making it an engaging and informative outing for the whole family. It’s a unique and fun way to learn about one of Switzerland’s most iconic symbols.
