Snow Conditions in Arosa / Lenzerheide

Arosa Lenzerheide is known as a “snow-safe” ski area, with pistes running from around 1,229m up to 2,865m – a big vertical that helps keep conditions reliable through the main winter months.

  • 60% of slopes can be covered by snowmaking, backing up natural snowfall.
  • On-mountain snowfall is substantial: with around 4.5–5m+ of snow per season, with higher sectors receiving significantly more.
  • The village of Arosa itself has a cool, snowy mountain climate with over 7m of annual snowfall on average.
  • For visitors to Arosa the upshot is reliable piste cover from early winter into spring, especially on the higher slopes above both Arosa and Lenzerheide.

Season dates & best time to ski

Typical season: late November to mid-April across the linked area.

  • Thanks to early cold spells and snowmaking, skiing on the Hörnli side of Arosa often starts as early as early November.
  • Historical snow data shows late January to early March as the most consistently snowy period, with the snowiest week usually the first week of February.
  • For weekend and short-break guests, this makes January, February and early March the sweet spot for the best blend of snow depth and open terrain, with good coverage still usually available into April on the higher slopes.

Snowmaking & grooming:

  • Around 60% of pistes are supported by snowmaking systems, including key connection routes and valley runs.
  • Recent investment has focused on upgrading snowmaking between Parpan and Churwalden and along key routes such as the “Black Diamond” slope, improving cover on important links and steeper runs. The resort is known for well-prepared pistes and maintains a large proportion of runs open even in leaner winters.
  • Even if natural snow is below average in the valley, the main ski area above mid-station level usually offers good groomed runs and reliable links across Arosa and Lenzerheide
