VAL D'ISERE - THE RESORT
At an altitude of 1850m, Val d’Isere is located in a beautiful alpine setting in the Tarentaise area of the French Alps. Made up of three main areas – Le Fornet, ‘Val Village’ and La Daille further down the valley towards Tignes – Val d’Isere is famed for a multitude of things, not least its links with the Folie Douce and après ski.
Val d’Isere is home to a great many restaurants and bars, but also a great deal of top slopes which are connected by a series of modern lifts with high capacities and therefore smaller queues giving you more time on the slopes. Another real plus point about the lifts is that they are very accessible with the main lift base only around a couple of minutes from the centre of Val d’Isere.
With the first hotel opening in 1888, Val d’Isere has since gone on to become somewhat of a cult classic for the Brits in the Alps. With its chocolate box chalets, charming village centre and English speaking instructors, Val d’Isere has become a hub for British skiers with a superb ski area, luxury accommodation and great grub to boot. There is a free bus service (the Train Rouge) that connects the three areas, making it incredibly easy to access the different areas if you are looking to check out some new scenery, or some different restaurants.
Val d’Isere is well equipped for all your ski/board needs. There is also an excellent sports centre located right by the ‘L’Olympique’ lift station which provides a wide range of different activities including lane swimming, fun pool, climbing wall, well equipped gym and spa area for sauna, jacuzzi and steam room and massage treatments.
